Dog Door Installation in Abu Dhabi

Dog Door Installation in Abu Dhabi

A dog that can reach the garden on its own is a calmer dog. In Abu Dhabi, where villa gardens are walled and secure, a dog door turns the patio into an extension of the living room. The dog goes out for fresh air and comes back into the air conditioning without anyone opening a door.

We install dog doors across Abu Dhabi in three sizes, into sliding doors, patio doors, glass panels and aluminium doors. Like every installation we do, the work uses a new tempered glass panel made for the door. Your existing glass is never cut. Here is how sizing works, where dog doors fit, and what the installation involves.

Three Sizes for Three Kinds of Dog

Dog doors are not one size fits all. A door built for a Labrador is a security and insulation problem for a French Bulldog, and a door built for a French Bulldog is a wall for a Labrador. We carry three sizes and match the door to the dog.

Medium measures 23 by 35 centimetres and suits breeds around the size of a French Bulldog. Large measures 28 by 45 centimetres and suits breeds around the size of a Beagle. Extra large measures 36 by 65 centimetres and suits breeds around the size of a Labrador. The measurements refer to the flap opening your dog actually passes through, not the frame.

Sizing is done by the dog, not the breed label. A stocky Beagle can need more width than a lean one, and puppies grow. We measure shoulder height and chest width during the visit and recommend the size that gives your dog a comfortable margin. If your dog is still growing, we size for the adult dog, because replacing a panel later costs more than getting it right once.

Where Dog Doors Fit in Abu Dhabi Homes

Villas in Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Khalifa City give us the most straightforward work. The patio or garden door becomes the dog door. The new panel carries the dog door at the right height, the door keeps working as a door, and the garden does the rest. Al Reef townhouses work the same way on a smaller scale, usually through the rear door to the courtyard.

Apartments with large balconies, like many in Al Raha, can take a dog door in the sliding balcony panel for small and medium dogs. The balcony needs to be safe and shaded, and the dog needs to be a breed suited to balcony life. We say no when the setup is wrong for the dog. A dog door should improve the animal’s life, not create a new problem.

Yas Island villas often have aluminium-framed patio doors, which suit dog doors well. The panel is fabricated with a powder-coated aluminium frame around the door opening, matched to the existing door frame, and the flap itself is built to sit flat and seal against dust.

Sliding Doors and the Interlock Gap

Most Abu Dhabi dog doors go into sliding doors, and sliding doors have a detail worth understanding. Where the two sliding panels meet, there is an interlock, a narrow channel where the panels overlap. When we replace one panel with a new one carrying the dog door, that overlap can leave a small gap.

We seal the gap with a weather strip. The strip keeps out dust, sand and warm air while letting the door slide normally. The weather strip is part of the standard job on some doors. On others it is an add-on of AED 250, depending on the door profile and the strip it needs. We tell you which applies at the measurement visit, before any work starts, so there are no surprises on installation day.

The result is a sliding door that behaves exactly like your old one. It slides, it locks, it seals. It also has a dog-sized door at the bottom that your dog learns to use within a day or two.

Built for the Abu Dhabi Climate

A dog door in the UAE has to deal with dust, sand and heat. The flaps we fit use a magnetic or weighted seal that sits flat against the frame when the dog is not passing through. That seal is what keeps fine dust out of the living room and keeps cooled air inside. A loose, flapping door would undo the point of the installation.

The frame around the dog door is powder-coated aluminium, which handles the sun and the occasional sandstorm without corroding. The glass panel itself comes in reflective finishes, gray, green, brown or blue, or transparent, matched as closely as possible to your existing glass. As with all our panels, a slight colour variation is normal. No supplier can guarantee a 100 percent match with glass that has weathered for years.

For double-glazed patio doors, we fabricate a new double-glazed unit with the dog door opening cut before the panes are sealed. The insulation of the unit is preserved, which matters in a climate where the glass is doing real work against the heat.

What Happens on Installation Day

The new panel arrives ready. We remove your original sliding or patio panel, fit the new panel in its place, and secure the dog door into its opening. The sliding action is tested, the lock is tested, and the interlock weather strip is fitted and checked. Then we walk you through the flap tension and the cleaning routine.

Most dogs figure out the door fast. Food on the other side of a held-open flap does most of the training. Timid dogs take a few days, and we recommend propping the flap open at first so the dog learns the route before dealing with the push. Your original glass panel is handed back to you intact. We never cut existing glass, and keeping the original means the door can be restored exactly as it was.

FAQ

What size dog door does my dog need?

We carry three sizes. Medium is 23 by 35 centimetres and suits a French Bulldog. Large is 28 by 45 centimetres and suits a Beagle. Extra large is 36 by 65 centimetres and suits a Labrador. We measure your dog before ordering the panel.

Can a dog door go into a sliding patio door?

Yes. Most of our dog door work in Abu Dhabi is exactly that. We fabricate a new sliding panel with the dog door built in, so the door still slides and locks as before.

What seals the gap in a sliding door installation?

The gap where the two sliding panels meet sometimes needs a weather strip to seal it. Some installations include the strip, and on others it is an add-on of AED 250. We tell you which applies at the measurement visit.

Will you cut my existing glass?

No. We never cut your existing glass. We build a new tempered glass panel with the dog door opening cut before tempering, and you keep the original panel.

How long does an XL dog door installation take?

XL doors take longer to prepare because the panel and the door are bigger, but the on-site visit is usually still finished within a few hours. We confirm the timing when we measure.

Do dog doors keep Abu Dhabi dust and sand out?

Yes. The doors use a magnetic or weighted flap that sits flat against the frame, so sand, dust and insects stay outside while your dog pushes through freely.
