What size dog door does your dog need?

Three sizes, ten breeds, one honest answer. Pick your breed in the 3D tool below and see exactly which flap fits. We fit Medium, Large and X-Large. We don’t install the Small size at all, it is too small for a dog to use comfortably.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Which size dog door does my dog need?+

Medium (21.0 × 31.1 cm) suits Shih Tzus, Toy Poodles, Pomeranians and French Bulldogs. Large (26.0 × 41.3 cm) suits Beagles and Miniature Poodles. X-Large (34.9 × 60.3 cm) suits Labradors, Huskies, Pointers and Great Danes. Pick your breed in the 3D tool above to see your size.

Why don’t you install the Small size?+

The Small flap is too small for a dog to pass through comfortably. We start at Medium, which already suits the smallest breeds we fit for, like Pomeranians and Toy Poodles.

My dog is between two sizes. Which do I pick?+

Always size up. A flap that is slightly big swings easily and your dog learns it in a day. A flap that is slightly small gets ignored, and then nobody is happy.

Should I go by breed or measure my dog?+

Breed is the starting point, measurement is the decider. Measure shoulder height and the widest point of the chest, then pick the flap with a few centimetres to spare. If you are unsure, send us the numbers on WhatsApp and we will confirm the size before the visit.

Is this the PetSafe Freedom aluminium door?+

Yes. The Freedom aluminium door is our standard dog door: a rigid aluminium frame, a flexible flap, and a slide-in closing panel for the night or when you are away.

Can I see the flap before I decide?+

The 3D tool above shows every size true to scale, with a shoulder-height marker for each breed. Drag to rotate, tap the flap to swing it.

What if my dog won’t use the door?+

Almost every dog learns within days. Hold the flap open and let them walk through for a treat, then let the flap rest on their back a few times. Most owners tell us the training took less than a week.
